It would work, but there are better ways to do it - that won't poison you or melt your bucket. That produced a VERY strong smell in their breaths which everybody called alky-breath!. Methanol is completely soluble in alcohol, water and ether. I've read that it is an excellent solvent for shellac, but I haven't tried it.
